What is vitamin B2?
Vitamin B2 is an important component of two different coenzymes called FAD (flavin mononucleotide) and FMN (flavin adenine dinucleotide), which are necessary in the cells' energy production and therefore in the burning of carbohydrate, fat and protein.
Why do we need vitamin B2?
Vitamin B2 is i.a. involved in the formation of antibodies and is involved in the production of several vital substances, such as niacin (B3), norepinephrine, serotonin, histamine and fatty acids. Therefore, athletes also need vitamin B2, as it counteracts fatigue and exhaustion. Vitamin B2 contributes to the normal functioning of, among other things:
- the nervous system
- energy metabolism
- herringbone
- skin, vision and red blood cells
- turnover of iron
- oxidative stress
- to reduce fatigue and exhaustion
It is always a very good idea to take vitamin B2 together with other B vitamins, as they are dependent on each other's functions.
Who typically lacks vitamin B2?
The absorption of vitamin B2 is particularly reduced by excessive consumption of alcohol, sugar, coffee and tobacco. In addition, the elderly often need more vitamins and minerals, as the aging of the body i.a. impairs the ability to absorb nutrients.
