Studies have shown that approx. 20% of the population over the age of 65 is deficient in vitamin B12*. The main reason is impaired digestion, and it can actually take up to 6 years before the first signs of B12 deficiency appear. If you are over 50, it is a good idea to take a supplement of vitamin B12.

B12 from Green Vitamins
We offer two different strengths of vitamin B12; 125 mcg and 500 mcg. Both strengths are vegan and based on methylcobalamin.

What are the functions of vitamin B12?
Vitamin B12 has an influence on many functions in the body, and B12 also contributes to:

• The formation of red blood cells
• A normal energy metabolism
• Turnover of homocysteine
• Normal mental functioning
• Normal cell division process
• Normally functioning nervous system and immune system
• Reduces fatigue and exhaustion

Vitamin B12's effect is particularly enhanced in collaboration with folic acid and vitamin B6, and it is therefore a very good idea to eat vitamin B12 together with the other B vitamins.

How is B12 deficiency diagnosed?
An important indicator of B12 deficiency is elevated levels of homocysteine ​​in the blood, which B12 and folic acid together can remove from the blood. You can therefore have your doctor take a blood test.

Are you vegan or vegetarian?
In our diet, we normally get vitamin B12 from meat, dairy products, fish and eggs. Vegans and vegetarians therefore often risk being deficient in vitamin B12. Supplementation of vitamin B12 would therefore be a good idea, to ensure the body has sufficient vitamin B12.
