Berthelsen Iodine is easily absorbable iodine in the form of 225 mcg Potassium Iodide. 1 can contains 180 small and easy-to-swallow tablets. 1 can is enough for 6 months.

What is iodine?
Iodine is a vital trace mineral that is part of thyroxine. Thyroxine is produced in the thyroid gland and helps to control the metabolism. Iodine is released from the thyroid gland and excreted via the kidneys. It is absorbed incredibly easily by the body, so almost none of the iodine intake is wasted.

If you are exposed to radioactivity from, for example, a spill, it is a good idea to eat iodine, as it can prevent harmful effects from radioactive iodine.

Consequences of iodine deficiency
Iodine deficiency can lead to i.a. goiter, low metabolism, fatigue and lethargy. Therefore, in the year 2000, it became mandatory to add iodine to table salt, since 220,000 people in 1996 suffered from goiter, which could be due to iodine deficiency. The latest figures from the Danish Iodine and Metabolism Survey from 2014 show that there is still a general mild iodine deficit in Denmark, despite enrichment of iodine in e.g. table salt, milk and bread.

What are the functions of iodine?
Iodine has many important functions in the body and contributes i.a. to:

• a normal cognitive function
• normal functioning of the nervous system
• normal production of thyroid hormones
• normal thyroid function
• normal energy metabolism
• maintenance of the skin

However, you should be careful with your iodine intake, and you should therefore not overdose.
